Book excerpt: The main decisions are summarized as follows: i) improve the reporting of catch data and conduct randomized intensive sampling; ii) conduct ageing studies on Scomberomorous and cooperate and coordinate with the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission; iii) introduce bycatch reduction devices in the shrimp fishery and work at holding a session on regional oceanography; iv) to expand activities in aquaculture and establish a regional information system; v) promote the preparation of a more detailed study of implications in the WTO; vi) continue to support cooperation with regional bodies concerned with fisheries and follow up the implementation of the shrimp and demersal surveys.
