The Principal of the Beck Middle School, Mr. Burdette and the head of social studies, Mr. Harold Melleby were also mentioned. Kean speaks about the three constitutions that New Jersey had then had and the "clean government" movement which began in Essex County, which was Kean's home county. He tells his audience that New Jersey had a widespread, negative reputation for very corrupt politics. The fight for clean government went on for many years, until clean government candidate Alfred Discoll, was elected by a huge majority. Discoll called together the State Constitutional Covention of 1947. He discusses some of the results of that convention such as conditional vetoes. He concludes by stating that "the outstanding feature of our government is that it outlasts any one person or time."
