Book excerpt: According to the World Bank report Migration and Remittances during the Global Financial Crisis and Beyond, remittance income now exceeds foreign aid from the West in some developing countries. Other studies claim that not only are remittances now triple the size of official aid flows; they are much more stable than other financial sources. It has also been established that remittances constitute a more constant source of income for developing countries than official development assistance, foreign direct investment, and private flows.
