Book excerpt: "The following is an informal history of Battery "B" of the 516th Field Artillery Battalion from the time the Battalion was activated on November 25, 1943 to the time of the gathering together of these facts and stories about the organization, travels and personnel of the Battery. It is being written at the suggestion of the Battery Commander Capt. Harold J. Hedges. At this writing we are in position near the town of Moers to the west of Germany's Rhine River in the midst of the 9th Army's preparations for a drive across that historic stream toward Berlin and points east.
