Book excerpt: Michael Renn, a former executive manager in the North Carolina Public School system, examines the conclusions of Jennifer Deal's book, "Retiring the Generation Gap: How Employees Young and Old Can Find Common Ground," as they apply to educators. With the assistance of CCL's senior research associate Bill Gentry and the permission of Deal, Renn compared her survey data to a group of educators from three different states. To his surprise, and contrary to his perceptions of previous experiences, Deal's results were replicated -- people from all generations are largely alike in what they think, believe, and want. Renn examines these results and draws conclusions useful to those working in education management.
