The findings of the research indicated more than three quarters of fire departments surveyed use employee evaluations, although almost two-thirds were dis-satisfied with their evaluation's system. The research offered alternatives to employee evaluations. The recommendations of the research were for the Providence Fire Department to take a total quality management approach to an "on-going" program aimed toward improving firefighters and officers professionally, thereby providing the citizens of Providence quality service.
