Book excerpt: This book highlights the history of Reformation through the list of “sects”, which emerged soon after dissent between Luther, Calvin, and Zwingli became public. It is based on the vast compendiums of heretics, which were taken from the opusculi by such minor-known Catholic authors as Jacques Gaultier and Friedrich Staphylus. Some traces of their activities led to Old Livonia, where, after receiving a letter of support from Luther in 1525, the people were exalted for participating in the Reformation. The sophisticated story of iconoclasm in Tallinn, Riga and Tartu is another focus of this book.
