In physiology a theory of organization has been shown to apply to all animated nature. The vegetable as well as animal kingdoms. It has been demonstrated that the humblest and minutest tribes of plants possess the same original structure, as is to be found in the most gigantic trees of the forest, and in animals the same law ap plies to the production of microscopic infusoria, as to the development of the largest mammiferous tribes. It is now generally admitted that the functions of nutrition and growth are perfected by means of the formation and develop ment of nucleated cells, and the nu merone facts which have tended to elu cidate this truth, constitute the basis of the doctrine of cytogenesis.
