Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the two methodological approaches to teaching Modern Greek as a second language to adults to determine which approach is more successful. Syllabi were gathered from leading Hellenic Studies programs from across the United States and from language institutes in Athens, Greece. The syllabi were examined to identify both the textbooks used as well as the structure of the course and assignments given. While the translation approach is useful in teaching Modern Greek, it is not as successful as the total-immersion approach. Language centers and programs should adopt the total-immersion approach to teach Modern Greek to adult students.
